Takeru Satoh and Ryunosuke Kamiki to Star in Live-Action Film of Bakuman

Earlier this year, the news about Bakuman‘s live action film adaptation surfaced. It is set to be released in Japan in 2015 and the filming is estimated to be completed in September this year. The movie is directed by Hitoshi Ōne and the lead stars for the film have already been announced. Takeru Satoh, famous for his leading roles in TV series Kamen Rider Den-O and the highly-successful movie installment of Rurouni Kenshin, is portraying the character of Moritaka Mashiro. Starring alongside Satoh is Ryūnosuke Kamiki, who also worked with him in the Rurouni Kenshin sequels as Seta Soujiro. Kamiki takes the role of Akito Takagi, the other main character in the Bakuman series.

Bakuman is written and illustrated by Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata, respectively. They are also the ones behind the creation of Death Note, another popular manga that was televised into a 37-episode anime series. It also spawned three live-action film adaptations that starred Tatsuya Fujiwara as Light Yagami and Kenichi Matsuyama as the detective who goes by the pseudonym of L.

And just like Death Note, Bakuman was also adapted into an animated series which began airing in 2010. A total of three seasons were produced and the final season ended last year. The story revolves around the lives of Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, two junior high students who dreamed of becoming manga artists. They started creating their own manga, with Mashiro as the artist and Takagi as the writer. The two encountered several hardships on their way but eventually, they managed to fulfill their dreams.

Seems like a lot of manga/anime series are getting live-action film adaptations these days. Which movies are you excited to see? I’m also looking forward to them next year! ^^
