Jigoku Sensei Nūbē (Hell Teacher Nūbē), a manga created by Shō Makura and Takeshi Okano, will have its live-action television series after it was serialized from 1993-1999, with a total of 31 volumes. The manga also spawned a 49-episode anime series with three movies and three OVA episodes. More than a decade after, a live-action drama was confirmed to take place starting October 11 on NTV Network.
Ryuhei Maruyama of Japanese idol group Kanjani Eight will play the titular role of Nūbē, a homeroom teacher at Dōmori Elementary who also exorcises evil spirits to protect their town using his “oni” left hand. Mirei Kiritani, Mokomichi Hayami, Mizuki Yamamoto and Hideki Takahashi will also star in the show. They will be portraying the characters of Ritsuko Takahashi, Kyōsuke Tamamo, Izuna Hazuki and Mugenkai Jikū, respectively. It was also announced that Kang Jiyoung, a former member of KARA, will co-star in the series and will play the role of Yokai Yukime, Nūbē’s self-proclaimed fiancée . The live-action TV series will also shift the setting of the story from elementary to high school.
