An anime adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki‘s sci-fi horror manga “Parasyte” is set to premiere in Japan this coming October 8th. The manga, which was serialized from 1988-1995 with a total of ten volumes, sold millions of print copies and was also republished in an eight-volume version. The story centers around Shinichi Izumi, a 17-year old teenager who is infected with a Parasite. These alien beings try to take over the humans by entering through their ears or noses. However, the alien called Migi fails to control Shinichi completely, as it only manages to burrow itself in his arm. Together, they both try to peacefully coexist with each other as they fight against other Parasites who devour humans as food.
The anime series is directed by Kenichi Shimizu and written by Shōji Yonemura under MADHOUSE studio. It is scheduled to have a total of 24 episodes. A two-part live action film by Toho is also slated to be released simultaneously in 2014 and 2015. The first movie will be shown in Japan on November 29 while the second is scheduled to be screened next year. Takashi Yamazaki will be directing the movies with Shōta Sometani as the main lead.
