English Translation

In the town after a sudden shower,
I said good-bye to you and waved my hand.
When you were passing the ticket gate, I only followed you with my eyes.
I couldn’t do as well as I’d expected.

My heart was fulfilled with small lights.
I walked along taking care not to step into puddles.
Somehow I couldn’t be free and willful,
As well as I imagined.

I’m fearful that something is broken.
Today is passing away.

The railway takes you away.
So I always go home by weary usual way.
The word I arranged is simple.
But I can’t say it well.
Why is it so? Why is it so?

“Even if we are on unpleasant terms with each other,
Our relationship can be rebuild.
Nothing has started yet.”
Another myself advise me.

Before the doors were opened, I checked my answer.
The alarm from a crossing had gotten larger.
If I could showed you my noisy mind,
What would be happened?

My heart is nervous, but it never cools down.
I ride it past the stop,
And I get aware of it again today.

The railway takes you away.
So I always go home by weary usual way.
The word I arranged is simple.
But I can’t say it well.
Why is it so? Why is it so?

Ao Haru Ride Final Episode

The episode starts with the previous scene between Futaba and Kou. They continue embracing each other for a while. After the long hug, Futaba suddenly feels flustered but she decides to use the opportunity to confess to Kou. However, the moment she opens her mouth to speak, her stomach suddenly growls and ruins the romantic setting of the two. Kou invites her to go and grab something to eat but she refuses, informing him about his brother who is probably waiting for him to eat dinner at home. She instructs him to tell his brother personally that he doesn’t resent him. They walk home together and before bidding each other good bye, Kou thanks her for what she has done. They both smile and walk to opposite directions. Futaba feels glad and relieved that she has finally entered the door to Kou’s heart, and she vows to herself that she will continue to break her way in if necessary.

When Kou arrives home, he is greeted by his older brother but as usual, he just goes to his room without saying anything. From his room, he hears the arrival of his father who is also welcomed by Youichi. He decides to go back downstairs and eat dinner with them, which surprises his brother. While he is setting the table, his father enters the kitchen and pats his head when he greets him. Before they could even start eating, Youichi suddenly starts crying. He states that he has long been waiting for this day to come. The three of them gradually begin talking to each other and Kou tells his dad and brother that he is thinking of changing his surname soon.

The following day in school, Futaba arrives in their classroom first. She wonders how she is going to interact with Kou after what happened last night. When Kou enters the room, they both glance at each other and feel embarrassed at the same time.

Kominato comes in afterwards and complains to Kou for ditching them yesterday. Much to their surprise, Kou asks them if they are free today, and they all spend their time studying together for their exams. When the scores are announced, Kou surprisingly gets a higher grade compared to his friends who taught him that he feels somewhat bad about it. While they are looking at the bulletin board, Futaba spots the guy she met at the library before and when Touma sees her, he immediately walks away from the crowd, recognizing her as the perverted girl he encountered before.

The pervert girl?!

On their last day before the start of their summer vacation, Futaba and Yuuri search for Kou so they can all discuss their plans for their vacation. While Shuuko is going down the stairs, Tanaka-sensei calls out to her. She informs him that even though she already has a circle of friends, her feelings for him remain the same. Youichi assures her that he doesn’t think of her as an annoyance, which makes Shuuko blush. After she left, Kominato threatens Youichi that if he gives Shuuko the wrong idea and hurt her in the end, he is going to pay for it. To which Youichi replies:

KYAAA! Sorry, let’s go back to the story.

Kominato gets extremely annoyed at him and wonders why he likes Kou whereas his brother is a jerk. Futaba calls him while he is absorbed in his own thoughts and gets surprised why the four of them are gathered. She informs him about their plans to discuss how they are going to spend their vacation, and Kou once again tries to get out of the situation. He tells them that they can just sort it out through e-mail, but his friends refute by saying that it is more fun if they will do it together.

At the end of the episode, it is shown that all five of them are walking together while chatting. Futaba recalls the time she decided to change herself and how it became the start of her friendship with Yuuri, Shuuko and Kominato. She accidentally locks eyes with Kou for a brief moment before they both turn away shyly. She remembers all the time she has spent with Kou and promises to herself that she will make more memories with him and the rest of her friends as she slowly takes her steps ahead…

Okay. There better be a second season soon. *fingers crossed*

Summary: Ao Haru Ride Episode 11

WARNING: Spoilers.

The episode begins with a flashback from Kou’s past during the time when his mom was hospitalized. The doctor was a bit hesitant to tell him about his mother’s condition. But without any other relatives aside from him, the doctor had no choice but to disclose the real status of his mom’s sickness. It was revealed that she had a lung cancer and had only half a year left to live. Kou tried to pretend as if nothing was wrong but his mom sensed everything and she decided to spend her remaining time with his son. However, Kou had a different goal that time and that was to study hard and get a good job to earn money for her. But his mom only wanted to spend time eating meals with him and watching TV as much as she could, and Kou later realized that he was wrong with his initial goal. He was shown in his house alone, desperately clutching to his mom’s shawl while crying. The phone rang but he didn’t answer it; it was his brother Yoichi. As Kou broke into tears while muttering words of apology, he saw a vision of Futaba running towards him, with an amazing expression on her face.

Yoshioka running

Kou wakes up and realizes that it was just a dream. The following day, his friends drag him to the library for another group study. He excuses himself for a moment and tells them that he will only go to the bathroom. However, he doesn’t return anymore and everyone realize that they got deceived by Kou. Futaba directs everyone to chase after Kou and as she is walking backwards, she bumps into a male student. She steps on his foot and falls on top of the guy. Flustered, Yoshioka tries once again to apologize but her hand accidentally touches the guy’s *beep*. (If you know what I mean. HAHAHA!)

"I'm sorry!"

“I’m sorry!”

Futaba screams and says sorry again as she dashes out of the library, her friends running after her. They all ended up in a cafe since they couldn’t find Kou anymore. They discuss how Kou was acting strange toward them when they thought that he was already getting closer to them.

Later that day, Futaba incessantly rings the doorbell to Kou’s house but he isn’t at home yet. Tanaka sensei opens the door and sees Yoshioka there. She complains to him how his brother doesn’t open the door of his heart to her and his friends. She tells him that it seems to be locked, but Yoichi further adds that Kou probably even forgot to put a doorknob at all, let alone a keyhole to his heart. Futaba asks for an advice, but Tanaka doesn’t know the answer either. With a renewed resolution, she decides to just break her way into his heart as she runs to find him. Tanaka smiles and points out how she is similar to a “storm”.

Futaba eventually finds Kou and confronts him. However, he argues back that she probably couldn’t understand his feelings when his mom passed away. Teary-eyed, Futaba advances toward him and bangs his chest, as if trying to forcibly break open the locked door to his heart. Kou grabs her hand and asks her why she is trying so hard to get involved with him, just like the others. He adds that it only makes him scared. Upon hearing that, Futaba suddenly advances toward him and they both trip and fall down to the ground. She lands on top of him (and he thinks she is actually pretty heavy LOL.) She continues to lecture him and tells him that it’s already too late for him to avoid them because him being scared only shows that he already started being concerned about his friends. Kou finally understands her and realizes that he only wants to be permitted to let his heart be moved and find meaning in his life. He hugs her as tears stream down his face.

They both continue to embrace each other while crying, and Kou becomes aware of the fact that he might have only been waiting for something to come to his life—something like a “storm” that his brother indicated earlier.

Koutaba hugging each other

(Aww. Just look at those two. This episode is definitely loaded with overwhelming emotions and them embracing each other like that is the perfect way to end this roller coaster ride.)
