“Wolf Girl and Black Prince” Gets a Live-Action Film Adaptation

This year is notable for the numerous number of manga series which have been adapted into live-action films and TV dramas. For instance, Death Note is once again relived through a television drama series which premiered in July. It stars Masataka Kubota (Light Yagami) and Kento Yamazaki (L) as the main protagonists of the story.  Hajime Isayama’s Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) also got a two-part live-action film adaptation which features Haruma Miura as Eren Jaeger. The first part was released in Japan last month, while the second installment will be shown on September 19.

And just recently, another series was green-lit for a live-action movie. Ayuko Hatta’s shojo manga Ōkami Shōjo to Kuro Ōji (Wolf Girl and Black Prince) is going to release its film adaptation in May next year. The cast includes Fumi Nikaidō (Erika Shinohara) and Kento Yamazaki (Kyōya Sata). The latter will also play the role of Kōsei Arima in another live-action film adaptation of Naoshi Arakawa’s Your Lie in April

The official website of Ōkami Shōjo to Kuro Ōji movie also uploaded a 13-second clip of the film which presents the cast and cites Ryūichi Hiroki as the director of the film.

The filming will begin in December and will conclude in January next year.

The manga, on the other hand, is still ongoing and is published by Shueisha on Bessatsu Margaret magazine. A 12-episode anime TV series was also aired in October last year until December.

Kento Yamazaki to Star in “Your Lie in April” Live-Action Movie

After the 22-episode anime TV series of Your Lie in April concluded in March this year, it was confirmed that a live-action film adaptation is also going to be created. Naoshi Arakawa’s manga will be turned into a movie which will star Kento Yamazaki and Suzu Hirose as Kōsei Arima and Kaori Miyazono, respectively. Joining them are E-girls’ Anna Ishii (Tsubaki Sawabe) and  Taishi Nakagawa (Ryōta Watari). Yukari Tatsui is the scriptwriter while Takehiko Shinjō is directing the film which is slated to be screened in Japan in 2016.

The manga was published by Kodansha on its Monthly Shōnen Magazine from April 2011 until February this year.

Bakuman Releases First Live-Action Film Trailer

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s Bakuman manga recently released a trailer for the movie which will be shown in Japan on October 3. Takeru Satoh and Ryunosuke Kamiki will portray the characters of Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, respectively. Kenta Kiritani (Shinta Fukuda), Hirofumi Arai (Kazuya Hiramaru), Sarutoki Minagawa (Takurō Nakai) and Takayuki Yamada (Akira Hattori) will join Satoh and Kamiki in the movie.

Other members who are also included in the cast are the following:

Shōta Sometani as Eiji Niizuma

Nana Komatsu as Miho Azuki

A 30-second teaser was released this week which features the narration of One Piece’s Luffy’s voice actress Mayumi Tanaka. The video was streamed a few days after stills from the film showing Satoh and Kamiki in the office of Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump  were also uploaded.

“Assassination Classroom” Anime Gets a Second Season and a Live-Action Film Sequel

Even before the ongoing anime adaptation series of Yūsei Matsui’s Assassination Classroom manga is over, news about its second season has already been confirmed! The announcement was made by the staff of the live-action film adaptation of the manga at a stage event at TOHO Cinemas Roppongi Hills in Tokyo on Friday.

The anime series premiered in January this year and is also scheduled to have 22 episodes. A live-action film adaptation was also screened in Japan on March 21, 2015, and a sequel is also confirmed to take place. The movie, called Ansatsu Kyōshitsu ~Sotsugyō-hen~ (Assassination Classroom ~Graduation Edition~) will be shown in 2016.

Attack on Titan’s Live-Action Film Unveils New Poster and Trailer

The official website for the live-action film adaptation of Hajime Isayama’s Shingeki no Kyojin (Attack on Titan) released a new trailer for the upcoming movies this year! The first movie will premiere on August 01, while the second part, called “Attack on Titan: End of the World”, will open in cinemas on September 19. The website also teased the fans with a new poster for the film which stars Haruma Miura (Eren Yeager), Mizuhara Kiko (Mikasa Ackerman) and Hongo Kanata (Armin Arlert). Aside from the original characters in the manga, new characters will also be included in the films. Yuusuke Watanabe and Tomohiro Machiyama are working on the scripts together with the supervision of Hajime Isayama. Shinji Higuchi, on the other hand, is directing the two-part live-action movies.

Hajime Isayama’s Attack on Titan started its serialization in Kodansha’s Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine in 2009. It also spawned a 25-episode anime adaptation which was aired in 2013, and a second season is scheduled to broadcast next year. “Attack on Titan the Movie: Part 1: Crimson Bow and Arrow“, the first of the two-part anime films, was also released in November 2014, while the second installment, Attack on Titan Part II: Wings of Freedom will come out in June this year.

“Bakuman” Reveals Visual for Live-Action Film Adaptation

The live-action film adaptation of Tsugumi Ohba and Takeshi Obata’s manga “Bakuman” is confirmed to premiere on October 3! The report was made by Mainichi Shimbun paper’s Mantan Web site where they announced the movie’s premiere date. The site also revealed a visual for the film which casts Takeru Satoh and Ryunosuke Kamiki as Moritaka Mashiro and Akito Takagi, respectively. Joining them are Kenta Kiritani as Shinta Fukuda, Sarutoki Minagawa as Takurō Nakai, Hirofumi Arai as Kazuya Hiramaru, Nana Komatsu as Miho Azuki, and Shōta Sometani as Eiji Niizuma. Hitoshi Ōne is directing the said film.

The manga also had an anime series adaptation which run from 2010 until 2013 with three seasons containing 25 episodes each. It tells the story of two friends (Mashiro as the artist and Takagi as the writer) who aspire to become well-known manga artists. Bakuman was serialized on Shueisha’s Weekly Shōnen Jump magazine from 2008 until 2012. Go to the movie’s official website to stay updated!

Miyano Mamoru, Kenta Miyake Join the Cast of Assassination Classroom

Voice actors Mamoru Miyano and Kenta Miyake will join the cast of the anime series adaptation of Assassination Classroom! Shueisha announced the news on its 10th issue of Weekly Shounen Jump magazine where Yūsei Matsui’s manga is currently being serialized. Mamoru Miyano will take the role of Gakushū Asano while Kenta Miyake will be Akira Takaoka. The two will be joining the current line-up of voice actors in the ongoing anime series led by Jun Fukuyama (Koro-sensei), Tomokazu Sugita (Tadaomi Karasuma) and Shizuka Itou (Irina Jelavic).

A live-action film adaptation which casts Hey! Say! JUMP band member Ryosuke Yamada also premiered in Japan on March 21.

Shota Sometani to Star in “Eiga Minna! Esper Dayo!” Live-Action Film

Shota Sometani, the main actor in Parasyte The Movie, will once again star in another live-action film adaptation! All Esper Dayo! (Minna! Esper Dayo!) a sci-fi comedy manga written and illustrated by Kiminori Wakasugi, is going to be adapted into a live-action film which will be directed by Shion Sono.

The series began its serialization in 2009 in Young Magazine. It also spawned a 2013 drama adaptation which also featured Shota Sometani as Yoshirō Kamogawa. Kaho (Miyuki Hirano) and Erina Mano (Sae Asami) were also included in the cast. A spin-off TV special will also air in Japan this spring.

Trailer for Parasyte’s 2nd Live-Action Film Gets Streamed

A trailer for the second part of Parasyte’s live-action film adaptation was released last week. The official website of the movie updated their page with the trailer for the live-action film of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s Kiseijū manga. The first of the two-part movie adaptation was screened in Japan on November 29, 2014. The films are directed by  Takashi Yamazaki and distributed by Toho.

Shota Sometani will be returning as the protagonist Shinichi Izumi, together with Eri Fukatsu (Ryoko Tamiya) and Ai Hashimoto (Satomi Murano).

Kiseijū Kanketsu-hen (Parasyte: The Final Act) will be released in Japan on April 25, 2015.

Io Sakisaka to Launch New Manga

Io Sakisaka, the creator of Ao Haru Ride and Strobe Edge, is going to launch her new manga series in the July issue of Shueisha‘s Bessatsu Margaret magazine on June 13.

Strobe Edge was serialized from 2007 until 2010 with a total of 10 volumes. A live-action film adaptation, which stars Kasumi Arimura (Ninako Kinoshita) and Sota Fukushi (Ren Ichinose) will also be screened in March 2015.

Io Sakisaka started Ao Haru Ride (Blue Spring Ridein 2011, and the series is scheduled to conclude in February this year. It also inspired an anime adaptation series which was aired in July until September 2014. Production I.G. produced the anime which had 12 episodes. Ao Haru Ride’s live-action film adaptation was also released in Japan in December last year. Tsubasa Honda and Masahiro Higashide played the characters of Futaba Yoshioka and Kou Mabuchi, respectively.
