Tokyo Ghoul √A Ep. 4 – “Deeper Layers” (Summary)

The fourth chapter is filled with action scenes as the whole episode takes place in Cochlea, a secret detention center that confines ghouls rated C through SS. The Aogiri members attack the facility to free the other ghouls, alerting Amon and Akira who are at the internment center that time to obtain information from Donato Porpora about Aogiri’s plans. Failing to attain any data from Donato, the two investigators join the security members in fighting the enemies, but Akira ends up being bitten on her leg by Naki.

Shinohara arrives at Cochlea and immediately sets into action as he encounters Ayato Kirishima, who recognizes his father’s kakuja from Shinohara’s Arata proto. Suzuya, on the other hand, easily wipes out a number of ghouls before facing his former classmates from the CCG Academy, Kurona and Nashiro Yasuhisa.

Meanwhile, Kaneki releases Shachi, and the latter instantly picks up the scent of Rize from Kaneki. The two engage in a battle, but with Shachi’s speed and dexterity in martial arts, he easily hurls Kaneki down. Eto appears and asks Shachi if he wants to see Rize as she addresses him as Mr. Kamishiro.

Before the episode comes to its conclusion, the scene shows Kaneki in a room full of skulls and bones, and as he mutters to himself about protecting Anteiku, Touka and Hide, he unleashes his kakuja for the first time.

Tokyo Ghoul √A Ep. 3 – “Hangman” (Summary)

Kaneki and Ayato, together with the other ghouls, attack a CCG police van to rescue Naki, who is devastated upon discovering the death of his boss, Yamori. However, he is not aware that it was Kaneki who defeated Yamori, and he even thanks him for teaching him how to write his boss’ name and proceeds to call him a good guy.

Hinami attends Takatsuki Sen’s book signing event, in which she asks the author to write Kaneki Ken’s name in the book since she plans to give it to him as a present. Nishiki, on the other hand, briefly tours Touka in Kamii University before leaving her all by herself to meet his girlfriend Kimi. Touka continues to walk around the area until she spots a poster of Kaneki on the school’s bulletin board. She also meets Hideyoshi Nagachika and they briefly talk about Kaneki who is missing. After the short conversation, Hide returns to his work as a messenger in CCG where he surreptitiously acquires information about the “eyepatched ghoul” from Seidou.

Juuzou Suzuya finally obtains his new quinque and names it Juuzou’s Jason. Kousuke Houji and his partner Seidou Takizawa present a report to him, Amon, Mado and Shinohara regarding their discovery. Their investigation points out the accident that happened months ago, where a man received an organ transplant from a deceased woman without his consent. They figure out the young man to be Kaneki Ken from Kamii University, who has gone missing after the surgery.

“Tokyo Ghoul” Season 2 Unveils New Cast Members and Character Designs

It was announced not too long ago that a second season for the anime adaptation of Sui Ishida’s “Tokyo Ghoul” manga will premiere on January 8 next year. Its first anime series concluded in Japan last September with a total of 12 episodes. The second season, Tokyo Ghoul √A (Root A), is scheduled to be aired on Tokyo MX which will also run for 12 episodes.

The official website of the anime recently revealed the additional cast members who will join Koji Yusa (Tatara), Maaya Sakamoto (Eto), Kazuhiko Inoue (Donato Porpora), Asami Seto (Akira Mado) and Takayuki Kondou (Take Hirano) who will reprise their roles together with the main cast and staff. Aoi Yūki  and Haruka Tomatsu will play the characters of the Yasuhisa twins, Kurona and Nashiro, respectively. Hiro Shimono, on the other hand, will dub Naki.

The website also updated its character designs for the protagonist in the story, Ken Kaneki.

The manga also concluded in September after its three-year run on Weekly Young Jump magazine. Sui Ishida, the creator of Tokyo Ghoul series, published a sequel just a month after the original story ended. Tokyo Ghoul: re began its serialization in October 2014. Another spin-off prequel story entitled Tokyo Ghoul: Jack is currently ongoing. It centers around the story of Kishou Arima, a Special Class Ghoul Investigator known as the CCG’s Reaper. The manga is published digitally by Shueisha in Jump Live magazine.
