Ten Most Heartbreaking Deaths in Naruto

The end of Naruto is drawing near, so before that happens, I decided to make my second list about Masashi Kishimoto‘s most popular manga. So here goes my top 10 saddest deaths in Naruto, just in time for All Soul’s Day.~

10. Chiyo and Sasori

Since they are related to each other, I decided to tie them together in the last spot. The background story about the two of them provided enough reason for me to be saddened by their deaths. Poor Sasori was killed by the puppets he created a long time ago that resembled his parents. He could have dodged the attack, but it seemed like he intentionally let himself be killed for some reason. Grandma Chiyo, on the other hand, sacrificed her life to revive Gaara who died after Shukaku was extracted from him. I would like to comfort myself by believing that Chiyo and her grandchild Sasori were reunited after their deaths.

“I’m the one who should have been killed.” -Chiyo

“Everyone, pray for Elder Chiyo.”

9. Neji Hyuga

Neji had been part of the story for a very long time, and when I heard that he would die, I expected it to be really heartbreaking. Well, it was…a little. I was quite disappointed because I thought there would be some flashbacks like with the other characters before. I feel like that episode didn’t pay enough tribute to Neji. Nonetheless, the fact that Neji is gone is sad enough, and no one else can fill that void in his team.

“Why would you go so far for me?” -Naruto to Neji

8. Hiruzen Sarutobi

This was taken from the first Naruto series. I really have a soft spot for old people, so when the Third Hokage died protecting Konoha from the hands of Orochimaru, you can just imagine how doleful I was. The funeral scene made it even worse.

“The Third didn’t die for nothing.”

7. Haru and Zabuza

You might wonder why they are only in number 7 when their death was one of the most sorrowful ones in the entire series. But you see, I was initially thinking to narrow down the list to those deaths in Shippuden only. However, I couldn’t just ignore these two especially when it cost me a few sheets of tissue back then when I watched that scene. Even the Demon of the Hidden Mist couldn’t hold back his tears as he lay beside Haru to be with him in the afterlife. I am starting to wonder. Perhaps Naruto’s emotions reach me close enough that I end up crying just like him in the anime.

“If possible, I want to go to the same place you’re going to.” -Zabuza to Haku

6. Asuma Sarutobi

Even though Asuma didn’t have a lot of screen time in the series, his death was woeful enough to affect me. The fact that he died right in front of his students was even worse. And do I even need to elaborate how his students, especially Shikamaru, mourned after his death? It was painful to watch, not to mention that he couldn’t even see Kurenai and their child.

“The smoke always makes…my eyes water.” – Shikamaru

5. Nagato, Yahiko and Konan (253)

These three died in separate instances but I decided to just count them all as one. After all, Yahiko, Nagato and Konan were good friends who grew up together to establish Akatsuki. Among them, I would say that Nagato “pained” me the most (no pun intended lol) perhaps because he played a much bigger role in the series compared to the other two. The last scene where Konan’s blood-soaked sheet of paper flew back to their old hideout pinched my heart.

4. Uchiha Obito

This guy had to die a couple of times in the series! The first one was when half of his body was crushed by a boulder. Well, he didn’t actually die there, though his speech back then was enough to bring his teammates to tears. A lot of things had happened to him since then, and he ended up being an ally to Uchiha Madara.

“I wish I had more time with everyone.”

*SPOILERS*

During the Fourth Shinobi War, he had to die again only to be revived later on to assist in the sealing of Kaguya Otsutsuki. Well, I’m just grateful that he at least managed to settle things with his friend Kakashi before he left the world to reunite with Rin. The poor guy finally got to rest peacefully.

3. Minato and Kushina

The love story between these two was only briefly shown in the series, but it left a good impression on me. The joyous expressions on their faces when they learned about Kushina’s pregnancy were short-lived when Uchiha Obito took out the kyuubi from her after she gave birth to Naruto. Namikaze Minato fulfilled his role as the Hokage by saving the village, but he had to give up his life for his family. And Kushina didn’t want him to shoulder the burden alone, as she also protected her newborn child from the nine-tailed fox. Both of them died at the same time, and I would be lying if I said that I didn’t shed some tears especially at the part where Kushina delivered her last words to Naruto. At least for some consolation, Naruto managed to reunite with his parents in the latter part of the story.

“I wish I could stay with you longer. I love you.” -Kushina to Naruto

2. Uchiha Itachi

Uchiha Itachi was, and will always be, my favorite Uchiha member. The guy was undeniably good in almost everything, not to mention his fine looks. He was a villain who perfectly portrayed his role as a ruthless murderer and traitor. Even then, I already liked his character. Then when the truth about Itachi was revealed, darn it. I just loved him even more. His death brought a lot of things to light and the reality behind his actions moved the audience to tears. The guy took all the blame and reproach by himself for the sake of the village and his younger brother. He died a heroic death, and if there is one thing I regret, that would be the fact that his heroism was never exposed to the public. And yes, he was reanimated later in the series only to make the fans cry once again as he bid farewell to his beloved brother, Sasuke.

“And no matter what you do from here on out, know this…I WILL LOVE YOU ALWAYS.”

1. Jiraiya

The previously mentioned deaths caused me sorrow or made me shed a tear or two, but with Jiraiya’s demise, I was extremely grief-stricken. He is one of my favorite characters in the series, and I felt affiliated with the bond he created with Naruto. All the flashbacks that were shown before he drew his last breath only aggravated my distress. I knew that his death was inevitable, with all the foreshadowing that was shown in the earlier episodes. (That part alone already constricted my heart.) My misery reached its peak when Naruto learned about the somber news. I was just thankful that I was watching that episode alone, because my family would surely get puzzled when they saw me crying in front of my  computer. And I blame Naruto and Tsunade for that.

“You fool…”

“I wanted him to keep watching over me.”

And I’m finally done with this list! This is the second list that I have made as a sort of tribute for Naruto before it ends on November 10. A lot of characters have died in the story, so it was really difficult for me to narrow them down to ten. If I were to include some runners-up in this list, that would be the deaths of Deidara, Inoichi, Shikaku and Rin. (Did I forget someone?)  However, I’m pretty certain that the loss of our favorite characters have somehow stirred our emotions. After all, even in the world of anime, death is an inevitable thing.

So, whose death pained you the most?

Five Most Epic Battles in Naruto

To commemorate all those years that I’ve spent reading and watching Naruto, I decided to make some lists regarding our favorite shinobi from Konoha. Perhaps you have already heard, but the serialization of the manga is going to end next month, November 10. And while I’m still in denial about the whole matter, I will try to write some posts about Naruto. And I’m going to start it with my top five favorite battles in Naruto Shippuden (before the start of the Fourth Shinobi War) that left me at the edge of my seat.

#5. Sakura and Chiyo Vs. Sasori (From Season 1, episodes 20-27)

I decided to include this one in my list since I wanted to give credit to Sakura and Chiyo for their victory against the first Akatsuki member who was killed in the series. Their teamwork worked out in the end though both of them sustained grave injuries. A short background story about Sasori’s life was also shown in these episodes which made them even more interesting. This part also showcased Sakura’s development as a kunoichi and a medic ninja. Kudos also to Granny Chiyo for her exemplary skills despite her age.

#4. Danzo Vs. Sasuke (Season 10 Ep. 208-211)

Danzo proved how powerful he was against Sasuke and with both of them possessing the power of Sharingan, the battle was incredibly gripping. The episodes revealed the true power of Danzo and the ten sharingan that he embedded and concealed on his right arm. Sasuke also exhibited his immense strength against a mighty opponent, even managing to defeat him at the end.

#3. Sasuke Vs. Itachi (Season 6 Ep.135-138)

Intense, gripping and emotional—that is how I’d describe the battle between these Uchiha brothers. We all know how strong Uchiha Itachi was, and even at the finale of their fight, he still obviously prevailed against Sasuke even though he died. Aside from the epic clash between them, bits of flashbacks when Itachi murdered the whole clan were also shown. You see, Itachi deserves an award for his perfect portrayal of a villain. (And dang, up to now, his death still makes me go teary.)

#2. Jiraiya Vs. Pain (Season 6 Episodes 129-133)

As the leader of Akatsuki, we knew just how difficult it would be to defeat him, even if his opponent was one of the Sannin. In this battle, we got to see the real power of the Perverted Sage, and learned how he was connected to Pain (Nagato) and Konan. The whole fight was action-packed, especially when the Six Paths of Pain were introduced. Jiraiya was definitely worthy to be called a legend, but I still can’t replay the last part without tearing up. WARNING: You have to prepare a roll of tissue for this scene.

#1. Naruto Vs. Pain (Invasion of Pain Arc Season 8 Episodes 159-175)

This definitely has got to be the number 1 in this list! This arc lasted for more than 10 episodes and involved many other characters in the battle including Hatake Kakashi and Tsunade. (I also got somewhat traumatized when I thought Kakashi would also die in the series. The consecutive deaths of Itachi and Jiraiya haunted me.) A more powerful Pain attacked the whole village which was destroyed in an instant. And just before everything got worse, Naruto turned up to face the Akatsuki leader after his training at Mount Myōboku. And that was when the epic battle began.

And there you have it! I know I missed a lot of other amazing fight scenes in this list (cause Naruto has tons of that), but I will try to make up for them in case I have the time to write a continuation for this. Words are probably not enough to describe how epic those episodes are, so you guys better check them out and see for yourselves!

Now, which of the battle scenes in Naruto Shippuden do you like the most?

Naruto Chapter 695: Naruto and Sasuke Part 2

This chapter is basically about the battle between Naruto and Sasuke. There aren’t a lot of words spoken but you can still feel the bond between them. As they continue to fight each other, their memories of their childhood and their friendship as well as their struggles return. They share the same fate and the same pain, as they both grew up without their families. But Sasuke decides to lurk in darkness, while Naruto tries to bring him back to light. With his Susano’o, Sasuke fights Naruto in his tailed-beast mode.  They both seem to completely understand the reason why they have to battle each other. But Naruto has already vowed that he will not let Sasuke kill him, because he doesn’t want his best friend to be alone again. Dying is not an option for him, and there is no way he’d leave Sasuke in solitude just like before.

Naruto Chapter 695

===========

Argh. The countdown has definitely started. This is the first chapter that was released after the announcement regarding the end of the manga’s serialization was made. Somehow, I felt quite disappointed with all the panels that were wasted in the recent chapter. Kishimoto-sensei could have curtailed the part where the memories were shown to save more panels and used them instead for much more significant scenes. I mean, there are only a few more chapters left so we can’t afford to see the panels being used for some petty matters. But don’t get me wrong; I also drowned in their bromance here, so I wasn’t totally dismayed with last night’s chapter.

I hope the next one would give us a more conclusive scenario not just about these two but also to the other characters as well.

Naruto to End its Serialization on November 10

There’s no denying that Masashi Kishimoto‘s best-selling manga Naruto has become one of the most popular series across the globe. The story, which revolves around the main character named Uzumaki Naruto, has been so famous that it spawned several media franchise such as anime series, OVAs, films, video games, and so on. The first Naruto anime adaptation was aired in Japan from 2002 until 2007, with 220 episodes in total. Its sequel, Naruto Shippuden, first premiered in 2007 and is still ongoing with 380 current episodes.

However, much to the surprise of all the fans, it has been recently announced that the serialization of the manga will conclude on the 10th of November next month. The manga currently has 690 chapters with the recent ones still not yet published in a tankōbon volume. Dozens of rumors about the impending conclusion have buzzed the internet, but the announcement published on Shonen Jump seems to be the real deal.

After 15 years of its publication, the world of Naruto is coming to an end. Don’t worry though! The anime series still have a long way to go, and there will still be a movie coming up this December, entitled The Last: Naruto the Movie.

But what are your thoughts about its inevitable end?

Naruto Shippuden Episode 373: Team 7 Assemble!

WARNING: This contains spoilers.

The episode starts with Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura standing in front of the juubi which is still trapped inside the red barrier created by the four hokage. As they are about to attack, Hashirama stops them to see the Ten-tails going on a rampage. It fires out a tailed-beast bomb but fortunately, the barrier is strong enough to contain the bomb and instead, the attack is sent upwards. Hashirama then creates some Wooden Clones and assists each group of shinobi to the entry points in the wall so they can go in and out of it and attack the sealed beast.

HashiMada Alert: One of Hashirama’s clones goes to meet Madara to settle their score once again. However, Madara tells him that he doesn’t want to fight a mere clone. He will not be satisfied unless he fights the real Hashirama, so he will just wait for him to come. Teehee. )

Back to the battlefield. Even though the juubi is already restrained by the seals, it still manages to spawn some of its clones directly from its body to prevent the allied forces from getting near it. Team 7 prepare themselves to battle, as Sakura takes her time to reminisce the days when Naruto and Sasuke had to protect her all the time. Back then, she had to constantly look at the back of her teammates helplessly while they were fighting to shield her from danger. And to be a full-pledged kunoichi, she pleaded the fifth hokage to take her as an apprentice and she spent the next few years training to be stronger. And now, she is finally able to show off her worth as Tsunade’s disciple.

She unleashes the Byakugo no In (Strength of a Hundred Seal) and a mark on her forehead appears. She punches the ground and its impact sends the humanoid-like clones off, scaring Naruto and impressing the First Hokage with her strength that’s probably much greater than Tsunade’s.

Naruto gets frightened by Sakura's immense strength.

Naruto gets frightened by Sakura’s immense strength.

The power that the trio display in their attacks inspires and motivates the other teams to join the battle and show off their own techniques. Sai also finally makes his appearance as part of Team 7 (yey! I thought they already kicked him out of the group lol). However, before he can even attack the ten-tails from above, he gets assaulted by one of the clones and falls mid-air but is luckily saved by Naruto.

The enemies keep getting bigger in size and in numbers, so Sai asks Naruto if he can share his chakra with everyone again. Unfortunately, Kurama is still not yet finished amassing his chakra so it’s impossible to do it. This makes it even more difficult for Sai and the rest of the shinobi to get past the clones, and so Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura respond to Sai’s concerns by weaving their Summoning Technique. And poof! Gamakichi, Aoda and Katsuyu appear!

They are indeed the disciples of the Legendary Sannin

They are indeed the disciples of the Legendary Sannin

Oh yeah! It’s like seeing the new generation of the Legendary Sannin! Minus the recollection of Sakura, everything else is totally sugoi with all the action scenes and techniques being shown by the characters in the episode. I got really excited watching each team’s development and new techniques. Kiba’s got a new jutsu (Man-Beast Team Transformation Combo) and gives birth to a Three-Headed Wolf (which is pretty cool). Shino’s Parasitic Gigantic Beetle Infestation, from the name itself, infests the body of its host and devours its flesh if the amount of chakra given is not proper, thus, resulting to the abrupt growth of the parasites inside. (My initial reaction was very much similar to that of Ino’s. Gross. But still amazing. 🙂 ) Hinata, on the other hand, manages to surpass her limits and proceeds to use her Eight Triagrams Sixty-Four Palms. As for Team 10, their Ino-Shika-Cho Combination Attack just leveled-up and they form a Human Boulder Yo-yo (which reminds me of Ultraman lol).

Team 8: Kiba, Shino and Hinata Team 10: Shikamaru, Chouji and Ino

Team 8: Kiba, Shino and Hinata
Team 10: Shikamaru, Chouji and Ino

Well, the throwback scenes about Sakura were necessary to fully convey her growth as an average shinobi to a more powerful one, enough to be on par with her master, Lady Tsunade. Look forward to more awesome battle scenes in the upcoming episodes of Naruto Shippuden!

Next time on Naruto Shippuden: “The New Three“.

A Summary: Naruto Episode 372- “Something to Fill the Hole”

WARNING: May contain spoilers for those who haven’t watched the latest episode yet.

After the short background story of Hashirama and Madara in the previous episodes, the scene is finally back to the battlefield. With Kakashi being driven to another dimension by Obito, Naruto, with the rest of the gang, was left with the 10-tails and Madara. Sakura was healing him since his chakra was depleted after trying to protect everyone from the Juubi’s attack. And finally. YES. AT LONG LAST, THE FOUR HOKAGE FINALLY MADE THEIR APPEARANCE. Minato first came as he diverted the ten-tail’s bomb and sent it to the sea.

Hashirama, Tobirama, Hiruzen & Minato

Hashirama, Tobirama, Hiruzen & Minato

Madara: “I’ve been waiting for you, Hashirama!”

HASHIRAMA: “I’ll deal with you later!”

With slumped shoulders and a pained expression on his face, he stopped short on his tracks, his heart crushed by Hashirama’s cold rejection. The four of them positioned themselves and performed the Ninja Art Four Crimson Ray Formation, creating a red barrier around the Juubi. Hashirama then did his Sage Art: Gracious Deity Gates, pinning the Ten-Tails on the ground with his ten seals. They were able to temporarily slow down and restrain the movement of the beast with that technique.

"It's a barrier that requires four Hokage-class shinobi together to create."-Gai

“It’s a barrier that requires four Hokage-class shinobi together to create.”-Gai

Right after that, Uchiha Sasuke made his grand and fabulous entrance to the scene. Obviously, everyone (except Naruto since he already sensed his chakra beforehand) was surprised to see the rogue shinobi all of a sudden. They were all suspicious of him. And much to their disbelief, Sasuke proclaimed his desire to become the next Hokage. (You guys must definitely watch their reaction. It was all hilarious.)

"...but you guys are taking too much time."

“…but you guys are taking too much time.”

Sasuke and Naruto both advanced to the battlefield, leaving Sakura behind. She later on followed them as well, informing them that she isn’t that weak to be removed out of the picture. After all, she is also a member of Team 7, and a student of one of the Legendary Sannin.

"Let's show them what we're made of, ya know!"-Naruto

“Let’s show them what we’re made of, ya know!”-Naruto

Oh yes! Team 7 is finally back! Watch out for the next episode: “Team 7 Assemble!”

Sai is not amused.
