Parasyte The Maxim Ep.24 – “Parasyte” (Summary)

SHINICHI: “There’s no way I could forget! Idiot!” ©Madhouse

Migi appears on Shinichi’s dreams and bids farewell to him. As he is about to vanish, he thanks Shinichi and asks him to forget about their memories. But contrary to what Migi expected, Shinichi still clearly remembers everything about Migi, and he continues to think of him even after his life has returned to normal. There has been no notable parasite activity so far and the world has generally become more peaceful, too.

MIGI:: “Quit whining already. I’m getting tired, so you can do the holding.” ©Madhouse

A year after, Shinichi meets Satomi as he tries to catch up with his studies. While strolling around, he catches a glimpse of Uragami so he tries to chase him. However, the serial killer manages to take hostage of Satomi and brings her on the rooftop of a building where he kills two other strangers. Shinichi finally comes face to face with Uragami and tries to save his girlfriend by attacking the criminal. He gets his arm stabbed in the process but he manages to land a critical blow on the enemy. However, Satomi gets pushed down the building and Shinichi cannot reach her on time.

Just when he starts to lament, Migi appears in his head and tells him that he is already tired of holding Satomi. When Shinichi looks down, he realizes that his right hand is clutching Satomi so he pulls her up to safety. As the episode comes to its end, Shinichi looks up at the sky and recaptures the moments and lessons he’s learned in his life through his experiences.

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.23 – “Life and Oath” (Summary)

Shinichi locates Gotou’s whereabouts where the latter is crouched down, apparently asleep. He quickly tries to cut the enemy but Gotou instantly blocks his attack. Their battle commences once again, but without Migi, Shinichi knows that he can never defeat the parasite, so he aims to at least cause some damage to its body. However, with Gotou’s speed and power, he is almost invincible, but on the last minute, Shinichi finds a rod that he uses to pierce his opponent’s body.

He successfully punctures Gotou, who in turn becomes furious for being impaled by a lone human. Just when he is about to kill the boy, his body suddenly changes and Migi manages to return to Shinichi’s right arm and dodges the attack from the enemy. The toxins from the rod that Shinichi used to pierce Gotou cause the other parasites in his body to struggle and explode upon Migi’s attack, killing the host in an instant. However, even after the blast, Gotou still tries to summon the smaller cells in his body to revive himself. Migi lets Shinichi decide whether he will totally annihilate Gotou or just let him regenerate since he doesn’t want to murder his own kind. After hesitating for a while, Shinichi finally makes up his mind and decides to kill Gotou for the sake of his family and humanity.

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.19 – “In Cold Blood” (Summary)

A short background story about Uragami is shown, though there is no clear explanation as to how he attained his special ability to tell parasites apart from humans. He initially suspects Shinichi, but later on brushes his suspicions aside. Even though Hirama still surmises Shinichi, he asks him for his help, together with the serial killer, to help the police conduct an operation to exterminate the aliens. Yamagishi, the other officer in charge of the core operation to identify and eliminate the enemies, also has a sensing system that he claims to be able to recognize parasites.

“But this ability of mine something most animals have, anyway? It’s just about telling your own kind apart from others.” ©Madhouse

Takeshi Hirokawa, on the other hand, talks with Gotou about their missing members. They conclude that Kusano, Hikawa and Maesawa were killed by Tamura Reiko, who in turn, was also shot dead by the police in the park.

“They’re claiming they’re the police? My bet would be that none of them are from the police. So you’re really moving forward with this, humans?” ©Madhouse

The operation led by Yamagishi and Himara commences at the building where Hirokawa works. The police order the people in the building to evacuate the area by groups of seven, pretending that an armed suspect is concealing himself on the rooftop. As each group of people exit the building, they are being monitored and examined by the sensory device used by Yamagishi to hunt which among them are parasites. Uragami and Shinichi are also checking them on the screen, but so far, they haven’t detected anyone yet.

Just then, the sensing system spots the first parasite in the third batch of evacuee, as the investigators prepare to launch their attack.

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.18 – “More Than Human” (Summary)

Shinichi Izumi gets confused with Tamura Reiko’s statements as she seems to contradict her initial objective of preying on humans. She informs him of the results of her investigation and study about the human’s relationship with parasites like her, then warns him not to fight Gotou as he is invincible. Just then, the police, led by Himara, surround the two as Tamura perfectly fits the description given to him by Kuramori. The investigator initially suspects Shinichi but later reaffirms himself that the boy is indeed a human, then he shoots Tamura on the forehead. Upon confirming that she is a parasite, Himara orders the police to kill her, but much to their surprise, the woman decides not to fight them back in order to save her baby. Shinichi is about to run away from her as she walks towards him, but she transforms herself  and copies the face of Shinichi’s mom to catch his attention and prevent him from fleeing.

Reiko then gives her baby to Izumi and entrusts the child to him. Tamura’s “motherly affection” reminds Shinichi of his own mom, and that act seems to seal the hole in his heart. Tears stream down his cheeks once again as Tamura collapses and dies. Satomi Murano arrives at the scene and sees Izumi in that situation, and she immediately realizes that the “old” Izumi has finally returned.

“Are you sad? Of course…your mom is dead.” ©Madhouse

Shinichi undergoes some interrogation as the investigator tries to uncover his secret for the last time. A serial killer who seems to have the talent to identify parasites, is placed in a room and is instructed by the police to inform them of anyone who is a parasite or who has the same ability like him. A few people who claim that they can sense parasites are put in the adjacent room. Shinichi is the last to be called in the room, and he tries to calm himself to avoid disclosing Migi. Uragami wakes up from a short nap, and his attention immediately focuses on Shinichi. He asks the investigator to instruct Izumi to look at him directly in the eye, as the latter nervously rises his head to face the man who has suddenly turned serious.

“Hey detective. Tell him to look me right in the eye.” ©Madhouse

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.17 – “The Adventure of the Dying Detective” (Summary)

The three parasites from Hirokawa’s group decide to exterminate Reiko Tamura thinking that she might pose a threat to their kind in the future. However, Reiko easily defeats her first opponent as she splits her parasite into two and burrows the other half into the man’s body. She flees, laughing maniacally while Kusano chases her. At the same time, her parasite controls the male host before killing him then it delves into Hikawa’s body. Kusano returns to the site and fights Hikawa who is also being controlled by Reiko’s parasite. As soon as he kills his comrade, Tamura stealthily attacks and strikes him dead, which results in her victory against the three.

After the fight, Tamura goes back to her apartment, but her baby is already gone. A note is left by Shiro Kuramori, instructing her to meet him at Hikari Park 1 at 5 p.m tomorrow. The following day, she intrudes into Shinichi’s house and scans his family pictures in the computer. She asks Shinchi on the phone where Hikari Park is, then tells him to meet her there at 5:20 p.m since she will give him something. Satomi Murano rings the doorbell at Izumi’s residence, only to see Tamura coming out of the house. She asks her where her classmate is, and Tamura only tells her not to worry about him since he will come back soon.

“A mother, huh?” ©Madhouse

Shinichi gets on the bus to go to the designated venue and Murano accidentally sees him there so she follows him. Reiko Tamura finally comes face-to-face with Kuramori, who seeks revenge for the death of his family. As he motions to drop the baby to the ground, Reiko immediately pierces him and saves the baby, surprising not just the investigator but herself as well.

Kuramori: “Who knew that a monster like you would…What…a surprise.” ©Madhouse

Kuramori slips and falls headlong to the ground, where the other investigators and police officers find him on the verge of his death. He manages to describe Tamura’s appearance to the detective, but fails to identify the name of the other “partner” he wrote in his report, which is presumably Shinichi.

The episode concludes with a brief scene of Shinichi meeting Tamura in the park, as the woman slowly faces him with her baby in her arms.

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.15 – Something Wicked This Way Comes (Summary)

Kuramori asks Shinichi for his help to check on his friend who, unbeknownst to them, had already been killed by a parasite named Miki. They go down the basement of a building when Migi suddenly senses another parasite coming to their location. Shinichi and Kuramori conceal themselves at first but the former cannot withstand the situation knowing that another human is about to be killed, so he exposes himself and warns the woman to escape. However, as she is running away, the parasite still manages to strike her. Enraged with what happened, Shinichi fights the enemy and he eventually annihilates him, and their whole tussle is recorded by Kuramori using his video camera. After witnessing the gruesome scene, Kuramori decides to give up investigating the parasites upon realizing that he is too weak and coward to come face to face with them.

Migi believes that Hirokawa’s group will come after them after they killed one of its members. He reminds Shinichi to avoid engaging futile resistance, but the latter seems to be completely resolute in fighting parasites to protect other people including Murano. Meanwhile, Reiko Tamura finally lets the other members of Hirokawa’s group to kill Shinichi as they all regard him as a formidable enemy. While in school, Migi senses three parasites targeting Shinichi, so the latter dashes out of the building to confront the enemies. However, while waiting and planning their strategy, Migi unfortunately dozes off, leaving Shinichi vulnerable for four hours. Just when Shinichi thinks that he has already shaken off the opponents, a man arrives and starts talking to him. Shinichi initially thinks that the guy is not the enemy, since he is expecting three parasites. But then he is shocked when the man openly implies that he is a parasite, so he immediately runs away since Migi is still asleep.

However, the man still manages to follow him, and he alarmingly calls out to Migi who fortunately wakes up just in time to confront the enemy. It turns out that the three parasites that he sensed earlier are all inside the man’s body, hence the name “Miki“. The battle between Miki and Shinichi is just about to start, but the former has already announced that “they have won” the fight, implying his upper hand in the battle.

Parasyte The Maxim Ep.14 – The Selfish Gene (Summary)

Shinichi is in trouble of getting his secret revealed after a private investigator, Shirou Kuramori, who is enlisted by Tamiya Ryouko, found out that he is a monster. The man continues to follow him even though Ryouko already ended his assignment. Izumi seeks the help of Uda and his parasite “Jaw/Joe” to find the identity of his stalker and they eventually catch him afterwards. Izumi shares his whole story to the guy as he asks him to stay quiet about his secret. However, the man tells him and Uda to do everything they can for the sake of humanity even if it means they will be sacrificed as lab rats. That instance, Migi and Jaw emerge from their hosts and try to kill the investigator. They are both stopped by Izumi and Uda but Migi continues to threaten the guy, informing him that his client might be a parasite too if his hunch is correct.

“Migi’s not sounding like himself at all. I’m sure he’s saying it all to achieve a certain effect, but…” ©Madhouse

That night, Izumi gets a phone call from Ryouko and she asks him to meet her at a university building where she is taking lectures about animals and genes. After the class, she goes to meet Izumi at the rooftop, carrying her baby with her. She immediately senses that something has changed with him, and based on his reaction, she figures out that it might have something to do with his missing mom. She laughs maniacally at Izumi who is enraged and ready to strike her. However, she raises her baby in front of her, telling him that she is going to use the infant as her shield if ever they will engage in a battle.

Izumi: “I’ll kill you!” ©Madhouse

Izumi furiously dashes out of the university, vowing that he can never forgive Ryouko. As he stops for a while to catch his breath, a fortune teller calls out to him and asks him to show his hand. Izumi follows her, but he extends his left hand instead. The woman accurately depicts the hole in his heart, and she instructs him to meet the person who opened that hole. She tells him to talk it over to that person to bring closure to his suffering, since that person is the only one who can seal that hole in his heart. However, as Izumi remembers his “mom”, a wicked smile forms on his lips, and he viciously tells the terrified fortune teller that he already killed that person.
