Death Parade Ep. 12 – “Suicide Tour” (Summary)

“I…can’t press it. Everyone…has feelings for someone. I know that…but even if they have nothing to do with me, somewhere, there is definitely someone else who cherishes them.” ©Madhouse

After receiving the memories of Chiyuki that he requested, Decim takes her to the lowest level which is usually off-limits for the guests. There, he brings Chiyuki back to her house where she meets her mother who is still grieving for her loss. A surge of emotions overwhelms her, and Decim gives her the opportunity to be brought back to life in an instant in exchange for someone else’s life. As she is about to press the button, she suddenly remembers the people she met in Quindecim and she realizes how all of them cherish someone in their lives. She turns down his offer as she looks at her mom and apologizes to her even though her mother cannot see or hear her. That instance, Decim clutches his chest as he finally understands what sorrow is. As Chiyuki changes her mind and asks him to press the button himself, the background breaks into pieces and reveals the lowest floor of the tower where dummies are piled up. Decim apologizes to her and informs her that he just made up everything as part of his judgment as an arbiter.

DECIM: “It hurts. This…is sorrow, right? I just…wanted to know you better. To understand you better.” ©Madhouse

The two of them have no idea that they are being watched by Nona and Oculus who are both surprised by how the situation turns out. Oculus insists that arbiters should not have emotions as this will only get in their way of judging. Nona thinks otherwise, but he doesn’t press on the matter any further.

OCULUS: “Four. Arbiters may not work hand in hand with life…for that will ruin them.” ©Madhouse

Decim apologizes to Chiyuki once more and she embraces him as they both cry their hearts out. Before the elevator to Quindecim closes, Chiyuki sheds tears when Decim flashes her a genuine smile as he reminisces his memories of her. He bids farewell to her as she is sent to reincarnation.

“Farewell.” ©Madhouse

As the episode concludes, two new guests arrive at Quindecim where they are welcomed by the bartender. Decim smiles at them as a dummy of Chiyuki is shown seated beside him.

She tries to chase him but Renji Yomo stops her as part of the final order given to him by Yoshimura. They silently watch as Kaneki walks in the middle of the snow-covered road filled with corpses of ghouls and officers who died in the battle. Everyone just stares at him as he carries the lifeless body of his friend Hideyoshi. After he puts him down, Arima walks to him and takes his suitcase, implying that a battle between him and the CCG reaper ensues.

Their battle commences once again, but without Migi, Shinichi knows that he can never defeat the parasite, so he aims to at least cause some damage to its body. “The parasitic cells that don’t belong to the main leader have instinctively sensed a threat to themselves and wish to flee.” ©Madhouse

He successfully punctures Gotou, who in turn becomes furious for being impaled by a lone human. Just when he is about to kill the boy, his body suddenly changes and Migi manages to return to Shinichi’s right arm and dodges the attack from the enemy. The toxins from the rod that Shinichi used to pierce Gotou cause the other parasites in his body to struggle and explode upon Migi’s attack, killing the host in an instant. However, even after the blast, Gotou still tries to summon the smaller cells in his body to revive himself. Migi lets Shinichi decide whether he will totally annihilate Gotou or just let him regenerate since he doesn’t want to murder his own kind. After hesitating for a while, Shinichi finally makes up his mind and decides to kill Gotou for the sake of his family and humanity.

Shinichi and Migi have finally decided to face Goto who has already started chasing them. Migi formulates a plan to leave Shinichi’s right arm so they can work separately. However, the risk is too high and Migi doesn’t have enough time to strike Goto since his consciousness starts to fade away immediately. Shinichi impales the enemy on the leg, distracting him for a moment which gives Migi the chance to behead him. Unfortunately, his cut isn’t deep enough and he immediately realizes that their plan is a failure. He instructs Shinichi to run away while he attacks Gotou and after hesitating for some time, the young man flees the scene, leaving Migi alone as he starts to fade away.

Death Parade Ep. 9 – “Death Counter” (Summary)

Shimada and Tatsumi continue to play air hockey as they both vow to seek revenge to those who harmed their loved ones. As they each garner a point, their memories become clearer, until Shimada realizes that the knife he found earlier in his bag was the one he used to kill the man who abused his sister. Tatsumi also remembers that he had already avenged his wife by killing her murderer. He urges Shimada to play better so that he can get out of the bar and find the other man who didn’t help his sister.

©Madhouse

When Shimada wins the game, Tatsumi recovers his complete memory and he becomes aware of his death. Shimada finds out that it was actually him who stabbed and killed the detective, since he was the other man that his sister Sae referred to. Even though Tatsumi saw the man assaulting her, he just watched the whole scene and did not help her just so he could pass judgment on the criminal. Decim allows Shimada to inflict punishment to Tatsumi, but the black-haired woman stops him. She reproaches his method of ascertaining Shimada’s motives and drawing out the darkness of his soul, stating that he cannot judge people when he himself cannot comprehend their emotions.

©Madhouse

She tries to convince Shimada not to kill Tatsumi so he can be reincarnated and see his sister again in another form. However, the detective continues to sway him with his cruel words and in the end, the young man eventually gives in to his anger, and his soul is sent to the void.
